Thanks to everyone who came to our September CHEE! pop-up! With a packed house, we were able to raise $1,000 to go toward the Cornerstone Cafe, the new home for Families of Color Seattle (FOCS) opening in South Seattle's Hillman City Collaboratory on October 20th.
FOCS just launched an indiegogo campaign this week to help with the Cornerstone Cafe's opening and programming. Catch a glimpse of what FOCS has done and will be doing in the near future in the campaign video:
In addition to being a cafe, the space will also be an affordable drop-in childcare center, an arts & education venue with multilingual classes for children and parents, and an outdoor community garden. The eats & drinks in the cafe will be provided by Food Education Empowerment and Sustainability Team (FEEST) & Community Arts Create, two organizations that have done incredible food justice work in the area. Read more about it at the FOCS blog.
The Cornerstone Cafe is an ambitious project that we've seen FOCS founder Amy Pak bring into fruition with a growing team of enthusiastic families and supporters for the last year and half. With all the changes happening in Seattle, especially in the Southend, that threaten to marginalize or displace families, comes an opportunity to create a space run by and for the community. Join us in helping this project take off!
